The shocking true story about Zephany Nurse, the girl who was abducted from the Groote Schuur Hospital as a baby, sent ripples across SA. Now, the award-winning documentary about Zephany’s story, ‘Girl, Taken’ is screening in local cinemas in Cape Town and Johannesburg, and is set to broadcast on M-Net next year.
The documentary takes an in-depth look at Zephany Nurse’s story and features interviews with Zephany and members of both her biological family and the family who raised her.
A chance encounter with her real biological sister at school almost 7 years ago led to the discovery of the kidnapping. Zephany’s own biological parents were the ones who contacted the authorities when they were immediately struck by the similarities between Zephany and their daughter (Zephany’s biological sister). This promptly led to the discovery of their missing daughter who had been gone for almost 17 years.
In 2016, a judge from Cape Town’s High Court sentenced the woman who took Zephany from her biological mother to ten years in prison. According to the Correctional Supervision and Parole Board, Lovona Solomon will be considered for parole in July 2023.
Now, the award-winning documentary detailing the story of Zephany’s life is screening at the Labia in Cape Town and the Bioscope in Johannesburg until mid October. The film is set to air on M-Net in early 2023, and is also currently streaming on Paramount Plus in Europe.
