Every woman should have that one thing in her wardrobe that screams, timeless and classy. An investment piece like no other that has proven for decades that it works for every woman no matter the style, or figure, it just works, writes stylist Rojaun Devos.
The little black dress or better known as a LBD was introduced to us by Coco Chanel in the 1920s. It was inspired by the uniform wear of nuns and maids and had a completely different meaning back then. The black dress is considered the foundation of being a sophisticated woman. One thing about the LBD is its versatility – the ability to go from day to night or smart to casual.
The little black dress is also iconic simply for its colour. Black is slimming and frames the body in the best way possible. Because of the darkness of the colour it also hides any imperfections in the folds or unwanted parts of the body showing.
“One is never overdressed or underdressed in a little black dress” – Karl Lagerfeld
The little black dress can come in many different styles, it could be a long cocktail dress, a short party dress or even a figure-hugging wrap around. Finding the perfect dress can sometimes be bit of struggle when it comes to the bust area. Knowing which style goes with your bust type is super easy with these hacks:
Large Busts
- Contrary to popular belief, tailored fits are your best friend! Definitely make sure that the dress has good built-in support
- Avoid dresses that have detailing across the bust area, as well as high necklines.
Small Busts
- It’s all in the details, the more details on the bust area the better. Look out for details like frills and beadwork.
- Avoid dresses with stretchy materials and boob tubes
This is your sign to make sure you have a little black dress that works for you – you’ll never know when it comes in handy, and you’ll always be grateful that it is.
