The city of Cape Town is surrounded by glittering beaches which attract both local and international tourists all summer long. Despite their often frigid waters, the beaches of this southern city have always been one of its main attractions. But there are so many, how do you pick where to go? Do not fear, we have planned out your beach hopping for you! Here are the very best Cape Town beaches to visit this summer.
Clifton 1st
There are four Clifton beaches that curl around the coast starting from the edge of Sea Point toward Camps Bay. Each of the Clifton beaches are gorgeous with soft, white sand and perfectly blue waters. It is Clifton 1st though that deserves a spot among the best Cape Town beaches. It is a wide beach that stretches longer than the other Cliftons with large boulders that keep it nicely protected on breezier days. Plus, it is dog friendly!
Be warned though, finding a parking spot can be difficult and getting back up the steps will test your fitness. However this is my most frequented beach, it is all well worth it!
Best for: All day beaching, sunsets and taking the dogs on an outing.

Camps Bay
This is by far the most well-known of the best Cape Town beaches, and for good reason. Camps Bay beach is right opposite the strip of eateries and bars that run along Victoria Rd, making it easily accessible and incredibly convenient. The beach itself is rather long, boasting clear and placid waters for great swimming. For those looking for a smidge of luxury, loungers and umbrellas can be rented right on the beach.
Best for: No-hassle beaching or sunset swims before a cocktail.

Beta Beach
Just around the corner from the very popular Bakoven beach is a small treasure called Beta. Despite the icy waters this is a favourite beach to swim at thanks to being protected from big waves. It also offers more beach space than Bakoven itself for comfortable lounging without as too big a crowd. While it faces the wrong direction to get a proper sunset, this beach does give you a stunning view of Lion’s Head and Camps Bay.
Best for: Gorgeous swims and gorgeous views.

Llandudno
This has long been one of the best Cape Town beaches! Situated at the bottom of an upmarket suburb on your way to Hout Bay, you’ll find this local favourite busy with activity – surfers, body boarders, kids building sandcastles, sunbathers and doggies. Luckily it is one of the biggest beaches on this list so it hardly ever feels crowded. Especially when the tide is low and beautiful coves open up to its left. Bring snacks (there are no shops in Llandudno though people are often walking up and down the beach selling cooldrinks and ice cream from their coolers) and stay all day because the sunset is always worth it! Loungers and umbrellas are often available to rent here too.
Best for: Family fun in the sun and surf.
