Banish a cold with these super-duper warming foods.
1. Ginger
This handy little root contains gingerol and shogaol, which both have thermogenic properties that will warm you up on a cold day.
2. Good Carbs
Complex carbohydrates, such as oats, lentils and potatoes, require much more energy to digest than simple carbs (a slice of white bread). With the increased energy comes increased heat production. Eat plenty of soups, stews and curries to keep your body temperature up.
3. Red Meat
Red meat is full of iron, which triggers your thyroid hormone to increase heat production.
4. Cayenne Pepper
Sprinkle some cayenne pepper in the bottom of your shoes for those chilly mornings. The heat will increase gradually and keep your feet nice and toasty during the day. Just be sure to wash your socks afterwards!
5. Herbal tea
A hot cup of coffee may make you feel warmer instantly, but herbal tea is much better for your health. It is packed with antioxidants and will help flush out your system, preventing colds and flu.
