Most people, should they make it to 99-years-old, may remember their primary school days in faint blurs. However, for one Priscilla Sitienei, her memories of school were as if they were yesterday.
That’s because Priscilla was still a primary school student when she passed away. The holder of a powerful story, and the epitome of ‘you’re never too old’ passed away on Wednesday in Kenya.
Gogo Priscilla had become an icon around the world when in her old age, she decided to go to school in Kenya and take on the title of the world’s most mature student.

That was in 2015. Since then, she went on to become a teacher; one of the school of life.
Priscila inspired a generation of older uneducated people, particularly women. Like her, many had missed out on the chance to get an education due to Kenya’s financially restrictive structure (pre-2003).
“I want to say to the children of the world, especially girls, education will be your wealth. Don’t look back and run to your father. With education you can be whatever you want,” she famously shared in a quote that’s been well-cited for over nearly a decade.
Her passing is felt all over the world. In the midst of preparing for her final exams, it’s believed that Priscilla developed health problems, reports the BBC. According to The Standard, Priscilla developed chest pains and other complications related to her elderly state.
Her family shares that she died peacefully and in their presence.
