One of South Africa’s youngest female DJs, DJ Sophia, recently organised a very successful winter drive for the elderly.
At just nine years old, DJ Sophia has already established herself as a prominent figure in the industry and holds a resident slot on GoodHope FM’s popular segment, The Good Vibes Show with DJ Ready D.
While most children her age were eagerly embracing the start of the June school holidays, DJ Sophia decided to host a special event.
According to IOL, the venue for this gathering was Wraptors Cape Town at Blaauwberg Business Park in Milnerton. Instead of indulging in games or being glued to her phone, DJ Sophia called upon her friends, family and loyal audience to contribute blankets and non-perishable food items for the elderly.
‘The event was successful. The aim was to collect as many blankets and non-perishables as possible, which we did,’ DJ Sophia told IOL.
‘I am so grateful for those that came to the event and donated. May they all be blessed,’ she added.
The event attracted a diverse crowd, including car and bike clubs, who were eager to support DJ Sophia and her father, Ian Petersen, who is also a DJ.
Together, they brought the decks to life, filling the atmosphere with vibrant energy. This initiative held a special significance for DJ Sophia as it was dedicated to her late grandfather, who sadly passed away in April.
The response to the winter drive was reportedly overwhelming, with numerous donations pouring in, and DJ Sophia and her family decided to personally hand over the collected blankets and non-perishables to the management of Erica Place, the chosen beneficiary of the event.
Even after the conclusion of the drive, the generosity continued as additional contributions continued to be made.
