After Blake Lively ‘announced’ her pregnancy in a twinkling Valentino number last week (visually and with subtle references in her typical charming fashion) paparazzi hounds wasted no time in hunting down pictures of the mom of four to-be.
It’s the age-old paparazzi versus privacy encroachment. However, Lively, a force to be reckoned with when it comes to standing up for what she believes in, opened the door to a bigger conversation and made sure that the power was in the hands of her and her supporters.
This is the woman whose pregnancy was revealed at the 10th Annual Forbes Power Women’s Summit held in her honour after all – so her energy in handling the matter naturally saw a power move from a powerhouse.
Taking to her Instagram, Lively shared pictures of her pregnancy journey adapted to a personal message for those who disrespect not only her privacy, but that of her children.
“Here are photos of me pregnant in real life so the 11 guys waiting outside my home for a [unicorn] sighting will leave me alone. You freak me and my kids out. Thanks to everyone else for all the love and respect and for continuing to unfollow accounts and publications who share photos of children. You have all the power against them. And thank you to the media who have a “No Kids Policy”. You all make all the difference. Much love! Xxb.”

Many mothers around the world sympathised with her message. Better yet, people got angry, unpacking the feat that children shouldn’t be subjected to second-hand exploitation.
One of the top comments from none other than Robyn Lively summed it up perfectly:
“Makes me angry you have to share such private photos to try and regain your privacy…” – Enough said.
Where does Hollywood draw the line in capitalising off unicorn moments? Unfortunately, it seems there isn’t even a line in question.
