Blush came into being as the first beautification product across most cultures. However its historical hold in the beauty world had waned in the fairly recent past, losing its favour to bronzer and contouring products. Now a little colour is returning to our cheeks. As we makeup tajes a more joyful approach, pretty pinks and rosy reds come back in trend.
We started seeing the return of blush in 2021 with fashion week makeup. Then it spilled onto the red carpet, social media and fashion bibles (magazines, of course). With beauty in 2022 steering more and more in the direction of healthy glows and all things natural, it is not surprising that a sweet flushed cheek is a trending staple.
How to wear blush now
There’s no one way to blush. We’re seeing everything shine from soft sweeps, monochromatic tones to highly pigmented bright looks. The idea is to follow what works best for you, your skin tone and individual style. But don’t be afraid to lean toward that 80s wave of blush! Statements are always in.
Inspiration
Start soft with bridal inspired shades and barely-there tinted balms.

Flirty pinks will lift your mood and your look. We love the trend of going for one shade of blush across eyes, cheeks and lips too!

Don’t be afraid to go loud and bold with corals and a bright lip. Or pair your pink blush with other catchy colours – like Tracee Ellis Ross for the cover of Elle Mexico.

It’s not just for the apples of your cheeks. Try a swirl of blush under your cheekbones, or stick to the high outer edges of your face like Maye Musk.
