The annual book festival that gets bibliophiles together every year is back. Spotlighting South African literature in an international context, Openbook has a little something for everyone, even kids with their Storytime sessions that make the festival suitable for the whole family. The Openbook festival is from 8-10 September 2023 and hops between venues like the Avalon Theatre and the Star Theatre at the Homecoming Centre in Cape Town.
Expect to be blown away with topics such as the impact of Apartheid, to writers sharing their insight that goes from page to stage, and unpacking the National Strategic Plan on gender-based violence and femicide, and that’s just day one. The event will wow audiences on all fronts and take you on a literary journey like never before.
For three days avid readers and authors co-exist in intimate spaces to discuss the intricacies of their art. Authors, publishers and the ordinary reader get to engage one another on a platform that drives conversation and encourages creativity.
Expert to see some of your local favourites such as Pumla Dineo Gqola, Africa Melane, Pieter Odendaal, John Maytham, David Ralph Viviers, Sam Beckbessinger, Patric Tariq Mellet, Chase Rhys, Barbara Boswell, even Frankie Murrey, the festival Coordinator to entice you with their words.
