Move over Woolies, Pick n Pay Express, OK Mart and FreshStop – South Africa’s convenience store landscape is about to introduce a new member to the mix.
Between the solidified stores that we all know and love and the UberEats/ Mr Delivery terrain, came the announcement that an American franchise will be expanding to local shores, and locals who love convenience are thrilled.
And no, it’s not Target.
The soon-to-be new stop, founded in Texas in the 50s, is one of the USA’s most popular go-to’s for all things convenience. Circle K is set to make local moves in October this year, seeing Gauteng as its first kingdom per Business Insider.
Acquired by the Canadian Alimentation Couche-Tard, the franchise has locations all over the world. The deal was sealed in connection with Millat Convenience Ltd which holds an “exclusive license” to develop the franchise according to csnews.
The Circle K stop promises fresh foods, hot beverages, fuel and all the other essentials locals on the move love and thrive on (especially if you do the majority of your shopping at places like the Engen Woolies).
What will make the newcomer stand out? Perhaps some Southern charm, competitive prices or novelty will set Circle K aside in the begging – but whether South Africans will welcome the new spot into our array of favourites will be a matter of time as the new kid earns our trust.
