Born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Munyange spent her formative years in Parklands, Cape Town. She moved to South Africa at the tender age of eleven and with a lack of fluency in English, she taught herself the language by watching the Disney Channel.
“It’s something I did with my sister. A lot of the time, my mom thought we were lying. She thought we were just making it up, speaking gibberish. We had a moment when we spoke to someone in English and for the first time, she believed us,” recalls Angelique.
Her acting talent and her English training saw her moving to Los Angeles to pursue a degree in acting and filmmaking to further her training in the field.
Since then Angelique produced, wrote and starred in her own short film, Words Never Said (2022), which is about to begin a festival run. The project was inspired by the “ugliness” portrayed in Scenes From A Marriage, an adaptation of Ingar Bergmann’s 1973 Swedish TV miniseries about a marriage falling apart, starring Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain.
She has been in other successful short films including Sebari Milach (2022) which was produced by Multichoice and directed by Lethabo Mokgatle, going on to win the silver prize at The Loerie Awards.
Munyange was part of the cast of Evidence of Remorse (2017) and Diary of Bolanle (2018). She also featured in a couple of episodes of Jess Goes West (2019) by Celine Chika, other New Media projects include #Whatsnext (2019), and the pilot project We Are The Mafia (2019).
She can also be seen in a commercial for Vagisil, a feminine care brand, airing on multiple networks including Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN). She has also been in a Commercial for Google Play.
Angelique Munyange is currently working on a pilot for a new media project where she will be starring alongside Hilary Ijieh.
