Connie Chiume has undoubtedly left her mark on South Africa’s entertainment industry, and now she’s adding another lifetime achievement award to her nightstand.
Chiume has come a long way from her hometown of Welkom, making waves both locally and internationally. The local actress and filmmaker has for over forty years played her role in telling South African stories, something that’s given both audiences and herself grounded meaning.
As per EWN, she shares that “telling South African stories kept me consistent, kept me afloat and kept me alive up to now.”
The seasoned actress has featured in almost every well-loved local production including Soul City, Zone 14 and Rhythm City. Internationally, she also landed roles in Black Panther and Black is King.
Chiume received her first lifetime achievement award at the Saftas (South African Film and Television Awards) this month, while she’s set to receive the second in October as honoured by the HAPA Awards (Hollywood and African Prestigious Awards).
The full award reads: ‘International Lifetime Achievement in Entertainment Award’.
Of her honours, Connie took to Instagram to share the news.
“2 lifetime Awards in a space of two months? God, thank you!” she wrote.
