Although summer might be coming to an end, if you’re smart, now might be a good time to stock up on some new swimwear as many stores are having end-of-season sales. Personally, I love swimming and shopping, but shopping for swimwear can be quite daunting as I am a full-figured woman.
To help make the experience a little more bearable for you, I’ve done the heavy lifting to find swimwear brands that cater to our curves.
Me&B
Local fashion house by the mother-daughter duo, Betina and Kelly, Me&B is known for their loud prints for bigger bodies. As a curvy woman, many of the items available in my size in stores are neutral, which doesn’t fit my personality at all. Me&B has managed to remain daring in its designs, and its swimwear is no different. Their sizes range from 32 – 46, giving every body access to bold, beautiful designs and impeccable craftsmanship. What I love about Me&B the most is the fact that they are inclusive all-round – size, age, and race. They also don’t have a specific plus-size range. All their products have inclusive sizing, which means that we have access to all the stylish trends that size small bodies do.
Baye London
The newly launched UK-SA brand, Baye London is founded by South African-born designer Kerry Sykes. Sykes wanted to create a brand that not only had an element of comfort but also swimwear that was made with quality materials. On her fashion design journey, she honed in on celebrating all bodies. At the product launch in Cape Town in March 2024, the girl-next-door models were adorned in Baye London swimwear, and we were able to experience the movement of the garments on normal bodies, not supermodel bodies. Currently, Baye London’s sizes range from small to extra large, but a conversation with Sykes revealed that they are planning to extend their sizing in the near future.

Jack&Joan
Cape Town-based Jack&Joan offers lingerie, swimwear and sleepwear (among other products) for plus-size women. The brand has been in existence for more than 10 years now and the fact that they cater to a long under-served market saw them gain success that resulted in the launching of four stores in Cape Town’s northern suburbs. Their swimwear ranges from sizes small to 2XL and their pricing is impressive with bikini sets starting from R249, which you can also shop on Takealot.
