The world’s richest South African-born man, Elon Musk, is now a self-proclaimed ‘Perfume Salesman’ after the billionaire mogul announced his new fragrance on Twitter earlier this week, shortly before changing his Twitter bio to reflect his new flourishing profession.
In September earlier this year, Musk announced that his tunneling company, Boring Co., would be launching a fragrance for men that would help them ‘stand out in a crowd.’

It’s just Burnt Hair perfume.
Yep, literally. The mogul, who has dabbled in various major business ventures over the years – creating a sustainable energy economy, building electric cars and robots, running his rocket company and colonising Mars – is full of jokes promptly aimed at the “must have” consumer mindset.

In a tweet posted on Tuesday, Elon jokes about his inevitable destiny in the fragrance industry:
“With a name like mine, getting into the fragrance business was inevitable — why did I even fight it for so long!?”
Musk is no stranger to capitalising on his throwaway Twitter jokes. Surely everyone remembers the mogul’s flamethrower launch in 2018, which made $3.5 million within the first day of sales? On a product page posted by Boring Co., Musks’s new fragrance is listed for sale at $100 (R1 800) per bottle.
