Your skin can be baby-smooth as ever, but your heels look just like they’ve carried you across a desert. Ever had that? It is, quite simply, not a vibe.
As shameful as it feels to admit, I’ve been there. With holiday season just around the corner, I’m excitedly anticipating our annual visit to the sea. As keen as I am, I know there’s going to be many beach walks on blistering hot sand, with short stretches of sprints over boiling, rocky concrete before I safely reach a seat to find some sweet feet relief.
As lovely as the beach-going experience is, it always leaves me with rough, dry skin at the end of the day. I come prepared this year, though – I’ve done a sizeable amount of research on how to keep my feet looking fabulous.
These babies need to carry me through many more beach-visits, so I’ve locked in on some great treatments ahead of the dry-heels and ashy ankles season. Here are 5 foot treatments you can do at home that show big results:
Sebamed Extreme Dry Skin Repair Foot Cream
Let’s start with the basics. This magical cream, which I first discovered in my mom’s bathroom cabinet, has been so effective for clearing up my dry heels. The number one trick to avoiding dry feet is to keep them moist. It may sound a bit gross, but people who wear closed shoes with socks on all day – they have the silkiest feet of us all…because they lock in all that moisture!
So, in order for any moisturising foot cream to really work (which this one does), you need to make sure you’re locking it in. Don’t prance around bare-footed after applying your moisturising cream. After a bath or shower at night, immediately apply cream after drying and immediately after that, put on a pair of socks. Keep them on until morning. This is the best method to keep those dry heels at bay. True, tried and tested!
Charlotte Rhys Foot Soak
Treat yourself to a spa soak whilst binging your favourite Netflix show. Check back in minutes later, and your feet will be as smooth, fresh and fragrant as ever. If you struggle with foot odour, this will be your next best friend. Infused with peppermint, this foot soak relaxes your feet and leaves you wafting along with a pleasant scent at your trail.
Skin Republic Foot Peel
This foot peel is considered a ‘holy grail’ by admins of my fav skincare community on Facebook, and I couldn’t agree more. If your feet are going through a serious dry moment, skip over the moisturisers and go straight to these booties. Put them on while you continue to binge Netflix. Two hours (max) later, remove the boots, thoroughly rinse your feet with water, dry off and put some socks on. Having the skin peel off your feet for almost a week after is not the chicest thing you could ever imagine, but the treatment is great for when you urgently need a foot renewal.
Milky Foot Exfoliating Foot Pad
This one follows the same concept as above, containing a milk ferment that keeps your feet feeling soft and smooth for longer. If you struggle with dry heels in the summer months, I’d recommend doing a peel once every two months, or every month if needed.
Elim MediHeel Medi-Pedi in a Box
This nifty box kit boasts fantastic, long-lasting results for dry, cracked or calloused feet. Set up a spa treatment right in the comfort of your own home, with all the goodies you may need. This entire kit smells divine and as a bonus, leaves you with baby-soft hands after you’ve put in the work.
