Twitter’s recently found itself in a pickle, and opinions on the app’s leadership decisions have never been louder.
From a massive staff layoff to rehiring recently sacked employees and, of course, the announcement that verified users would be charged monthly fees, Musk has been in the hot seat since his $44 billion deal Twitter takeover last week – a seat the world’s wealthiest man arguably enjoys more than most.
The takeover saw various Tweets from Musk detailing plans for the platform, including the one that triggered the internet:
“Twitter needs to become by far the most accurate source of information about the world. That’s our mission.”

Some saw it as an anti-censorship approach, others questioned who would validate the information shared (critical of Musk’s ‘content moderation council’).
The founder of Twitter even dipped his toe in the response pool by asking “accurate to who?”
While many users remain unbothered and pro the Musk era of Twitter, others have announced they’re calling it a day for the platform, including some of the world’s most influential women.
Shonda Rhimes, Toni Braxton, Ellen Pompeo, Jameela Jamil and Gigi Hadid have all either announced exit plans or already made their departures.
Gigi, the most recent to break up with Twitter shared her reasons on Instagram: “I can’t [say] it’s a safe place for anyone, nor a social platform that will do more harm than good.”
The United Nation’s Human Rights chief Volker Turk also weighed in, sharing in an open letter that the platform laying off the Human Rights team wasn’t an “encouraging start” before asking that human rights be “central to the management of Twitter” under Musk’s leadership.
