Q: How did this collaboration come about and what inspired you to create this specific frame style?
SJP: I’ve been looking for a way to create a collection that I loved and being able to work with Sunglass Hut, who are experts in the sunglass field, was a dream. I admire what they do, and it felt like the right partnership.
Q: How did you and the Sunglass Hut team approach designing this line?
SJP: We were working off an old and beloved pair of glasses from the 90s that were no longer produced. We wanted to find a way to create a large frame that was inspired by the past but felt modern, and wearable for many. Sunglasses that were lightweight and could be described as a friendly shield, was what I imagined creating.
The team was great and had so much knowledge and experience. The process was easy and wonderfully informative. I trusted their opinion and expertise, and they trusted me. We collaborated on materials, weights, frame colors and lenses.
Q: Who was the biggest inspiration behind this collection?
SJP: I realized once I sat down with the Sunglass Hut team, I was recreating a pair that my mom had once worn. They weren’t exactly the same; however when I looked back at photos of my mom she was always wearing a wraparound frame just like the one we have in this collection. It’s just one more example of “your mother’s always right.”

Q: What do you love about sunglasses and what are must haves in your bag?
SJP: For me sunglasses are a necessity, they pull my entire look together. No matter what you wear, sunglasses will always make you look and feel better. I never leave the house without sunglasses, my metro card, wallet, gum, and of course, lip gloss.
Q: You’ve created oversized frames, is this you go-to eyewear shape? If so, what do you like about big sunglasses?
I wanted to create a sunglass style that was versatile and wearable for all. For me, oversized frames have always felt comfortable and are my go-to flattering shape. Living in New York City, walking the streets and taking the subway, oversized frames provide me with just enough privacy but are still welcoming enough for others to start a conversation. These frames look good on everyone, no matter your style or face shape. It feels like a frame that will be around for a while. They aren’t a quick affair. This is my frame.

SJP’s Styling Tips and Tricks
Q: Can you provide us with any fun styling tips? Any wardrobe staples in your closest?
SJP: It’s important to be comfortable and be yourself. I have key pieces in my wardrobe that are staples – a black dress, grey jeans, a grey sweatshirt, sunglasses and a few great pair of heels. It’s my uniform. Sort of. What I can rely on, throw on fast and feel most like myself.
Q: Any advice to those wanting to switch careers or add something new to the mix?
SJP: Pursue what is interesting, exciting and what you feel you have the time, energy and resources to do. You are capable and deserving of a fulfilling professional experience even if it’s not a conventional path.
