The International Public Art Festival (IPAF) is an annual art celebration of Cape Town’s historically infused culture and diversity, hosted by Baz-Art NGO.
For its seventh edition, IPAF will bring art enthusiasts, vibe chasers, and a collection of local and international artists together, all in the name of creativity, from 1 to 5 March 2023.
This free-to-the-public festival provides a platform for artists to showcase site-specific artworks, including installations, sculptures, digital artworks, outdoor pop-up exhibitions, performances, and much more.
What If?
This year, artists will use their voices and hands to creatively install thought-provoking public artworks under the theme of “What If”.
Through their artworks, onlookers will be probed to reflect back on alternative histories and peer forward towards speculative fiction, all while questioning the current status quo and accepted norms.
This year’s theme seeks to crack the boundaries of the “known”, to allow for the expansion of our collective minds, spaces and societies.
The festival consists of a carefully curated series of public artworks spread throughout the streets of Cape Town’s CBD community spaces, blending and enhancing the diverse culture of the Mother City and its society, with the centre of it all beginning at the Company’s Garden.
Explore these spaces and marvel at the murals by following the Festival Art Route Map, which begins at the Festival Hub.
Festival Hub and Art Route
At the Festival Hub (situated within the Company’s Garden), you can collect a self-guided Art Route map or book a Street Art Tour for an immersive experience of the history and meaning behind each artwork.
Alternatively, immerse yourself at the Festival Hub and mingle with the public art creatives, join a workshop, or listen in on a panel discussion at the Public Art Conference (taking place 2 to 4 March at 6 Spin Street), all within walking distance from the Company’s Garden.
