Actress, founder and wellness icon Gwyneth Paltrow celebrated her 50th birthday yesterday (27 September) with an all-nude, Goldfinger inspired shoot in tow (more on that later). In a rather poignant essay penned by Gwyneth for Goop online, she reflects on her life passed, and the ‘ebbing’ feeling of what 50 will bring. Life doesn’t stop growing, in fact, it seems that it may all get just a bit sweeter, as you go along.
The following is taken from Gwyneth’s essay on approaching 50:
“I understand on some level that life is linear, that I have lived x number of days thus far and I have more in the basket under my arm than I do in the field before me. But there is something about the sweetness of life that exists deep within me that is unchanged, that will not change. It is the essence of the essence. It seems to be getting sweeter.”
Gwyneth’s appreciation for life-lived and growing older is inspiring but, just as we all do, the wellness mogul deals with her fair share of self-criticism. Her method to dealing with it? It’s all about affirmations. In her essay, Gwyneth goes on to say:
“I have a mantra I insert into those reckless thoughts that try to derail me: I accept. I accept the marks and the loosening skin, the wrinkles. I accept my body and let go of the need to be perfect, look perfect, defy gravity, defy logic, defy humanity. I accept my humanity.”

Despite Gwyneth’s remarks about letting go of self-criticisms, to the outsider looking in, 50 has never looked more golden or gorgeous! Yesterday, in celebration of the big milestone, Gwyneth shared images from her James Bond Goldfinger inspired nude birthday shoot. A true testament to the fact that her golden years have only just arrived.
