A date has been set! The 2023 horror movie M3GAN (Model 3 Generative Android) – was released in early January and a sequel is already on the cards, with a release date.
Come 17 January 2025, M3GAN 2.0 will hit the big screens, with the main cast returning.
The date has been set in advance, with high hopes of recreating the first film’s success. The dancing doll of many nightmares has already reached viral status, despite the film’s debut only a few weeks ago.
About M3GAN…
M3GAN is an artificially intelligent (A. I) killer doll, created to help protect, teach, and play with children. The movie tells the story of a robotics engineer(Allison Williams) who gives a life-like robot doll to her grieving niece (Cady), attempting to cope with the loss of her parents.
However, her programming leads to a violent turn as the AI doll begins killing those who pose a threat to Cady. Things takes a sinister turn as the doll becomes murderous and nigh-invincible. She becomes belligerent and hostile to anyone who comes between her and Cady in a telling that’ll have you on the edge of your seat (and clutching it too).
The Sequel
Writer Akela Cooper will once again put pen to screen for the script. The original producers—Jason Blum from Blumhouse and James Wan from Atomic Monster produced the first movie and will produce the sequel as well. Allison Williams will return, alongside Violet McGraw, who played M3GAN’s best friend Cady.
Gerard Johnstone directed the first film, but Universal did not announce a director for 2.0 as of yet.
Blum has produced many box office hits but has a rule of holding off on making sequels. However, he was prepared to break that rule with M3GAN even before the movie opened.
He told Variety: “After I first saw the movie, we had a good sense that a sequel might really work. So, we broke our cardinal rule and started talking about a sequel before the movie was released. I felt so bullish that we started entertaining a sequel earlier than we usually do.”
He continued: “It came to us with that title, with the 3 for an ‘e.’ It’s all important. When you get something to connect with culture, it’s very tricky. It happens so rarely. Every detail matters. You never know what actually did it, but the title certainly played a part.”
The movie has made a shattering amount since its release, bulldozing expectations.
