As a curvy queen, dressing for winter can be quite dreadful. As much as the winter woollens can be quite the look, the fact that I already have rolls and extra baggage of my own, makes stacking on the layers feel like a living nightmare.
In a bid to stay warm and still serve a look worth documenting, here are a few style tips to help plus-size women layer during winter.
1. Keep base layers thin and figure-hugging
Your first layer of clothes should hug your body. I like to start with a tight, stretchy tank top on the top and pantihose or tights at the bottom. I would wear a longer-length or stretched-out tank top if I plan on wearing a short dress.
2. Choose your colours wisely
Dark colours generally make you appear smaller, which is perfect for winter. You can also opt for articles with dark panels on the sides, which will give you a slimmer figure. Be careful of horizontal lines as they make you look wider.
Pro-tip: opt for vertical lines instead as they will make you appear taller and slimmer. You can also colour block with dark colours on the outside.
3. Drape a long scarf
Another way to not only keep warm but also to slim down your look is by draping yourself with a long scarf. Make sure that the scarf hangs down the front for the slimming effect.
4. Wear a structured blazer
A structured blazer will give your body some definition and cut your chunky clothes in half.
Pro-tip: add a structured blazer to bulky materials like corduroy or knitted items.
5. Wear a belt
A belt, like a scarf, will add definition to your figure. You can play with the position of a belt for the figure you’d prefer.
6. Heeled boots
Top off your outfit with a pair of heeled boots to elevate you, and if you’re like me and are short, the elevation of a heel will elongate your body.
