There have been many moments where I’ve found myself without an iron – travelling around, camping, and even during that extended stint at university when I existed without an iron. Today, I’m proud to say that I am a fully-fledged adult, but I’ve come to pick up some nifty tips on keeping clothes – particularly linens – wrinkle-free.
Steam
There’s a reason why irons usually have a steam function. It works wonders for removing creases. You can hang your creased clothes in the bathroom during a hot shower. Make sure you keep the doors and windows closed to trap the steam.
Pro-tip: you can also use a steaming hot kettle of water and keep it close to the creased item. Use your hands to straighten out the creases.
A hairdryer
The heat from the hairdryer will help to get rid of creases. Make sure you sprinkle the garment with water and keep the hairdryer on low heat.
A tumble dryer
If you have access to a tumble dryer, you can toss your creased items in the dryer with a damp cloth or a few ice cubes for about ten minutes on medium heat.
A flat iron
This was my go-to solution as a student, as my flat iron was always on hand. Flat irons are basically mini irons and it also doubles up as an easy travel buddy as it is small and easy to pack for trips.
DIY wrinkle spray
Add some water to a spray bottle and gently spray the creased item with water. Make sure not to soak the garment. Let it air dry and small creases should disappear within minutes.
Pro-tip: add some liquid fabric softener or conditioner to the water to freshen up your garment.
