Do you have loads of empty jars stashed at the back of a cupboard somewhere or an old vase that simply needs a refresh? If you do, we have a DIY solution for you.
Here’s how to refresh your old vase:
What you’ll need
- 1 clean jar or vase
- 1 old plate or bowl
- ¼ cup acrylic paint
- 2 Tbsp. bicarbonate of soda
- 1 clear matt spray-on varnish
- 1 paintbrush
How To Do It
STEP ONE
Clean and dry an old jar or vase and ensure that all stickers, paper and glue have been removed. (You can do this by soaking the jar in warm water and then carefully scraping the sticker off with a knife). Once clean, allow to dry properly.
STEP TWO
Add your paint to an old bowl or plate and mix in bicarbonate of soda. If you haven’t found the exact colour paint that you’re after at the store, simply mix the paint yourself in the old plate or bowl until you have achieved the hue that you would like.
STEP THREE
Apply an even coat of your paint and bicarb mixture with your paintbrush to your vessel of choice. Allow to dry before adding a second coat of paint. Repeat the process until your jar or
vase is covered to your liking.
STEP FOUR
Apply even layers of the clear matt varnish spray to your jar or vase. Leave to dry completely before applying a second coat.
You can’t go wrong with adding some flowers to your dining table or living space and placing them in these up-cycled vases ensures that they will be displayed beautifully.
