SA’s longest-running singing competition, Idols, will be coming to an end after 18 whirlwind seasons in July.
The show, which has become a household name for South African families, will premiere its final season on M-Net next month on 8 July with Somizi Mhlongo, Thembi Seete and JR Bogopa on the judges’ panel and ProVerb as the host.
Idols SA started 21 years ago in 2002 and wraps us with its 19th season as the grand finale this year.
The season has been dubbed the ‘farewell season’ after the show was canceled in February earlier this year. This came after long-time judges Randall Abrahams and Unathi Nkayi’s contracts were not renewed for the 18th season, and their places on the panel were replaced with artists Thembi Seete and JR Bogopa.
In an announcement video, co-executive producer and presenter ProVerb says:
“The talent, the power, the magic, the legacy starts here for one last time. Witness the rise of our final Idol in Idols South Africa farewell season,”
“Be ready for iLast Number.”
The time has come 💙.
The #IdolsSA farewell season looks to bow with a bang. Premiering on Saturday, 8 July at 18:00 on #MzansiMagic.
