The iconic Ladysmith Black Mambazo has been touring the world for years and finally, the South African male choral group makes their way back to home soil this Africa month.
Ladysmith Black Mambazo is world renowned for their unique sound that has travelled the world. The five-time Grammy-winning group has gained international interest after being featured on Paul Simon’s album, Graceland, back in 1986. Since then their lives have never been the same.
“Ladysmith Black Mambazo is celebrating Africa Month because our music is deeply rooted in African culture and heritage. Our entire South African tour is about celebrating Africa’s and our own group’s roots and origins,” said the son of the late founding member and now group member, Sibongiseni Shabalala.
The late founder of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Joseph Shabalala, was the band’s composer and vocalist. Since his passing, his role has been fulfilled by his son, Sibongiseni who continues his legacy. Likewise, other members of the band have gone on to be replaced by younger members who strive to keep the legacy alive.
Ladysmith Black Mambazo has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Michael Jackson, and Josh Groban and has somehow managed to remain relevant with collaborations with the likes of Burna Boy.
