After Disney released The Little Mermaid trailer, fans all over the world felt our inner children beam with excitement.
However, not everyone was spreading the Disney magic as many turned an exciting moment into an ugly one, taking to share hate commentary directed at having a brown Ariel (yes, in 2022).
While lead actress Halle Bailey has handled the backlash with absolute grace, parents are taking the matter into their own hands by showing the world their own brown and black children’s reactions to seeing themselves reimagined as the famous underwater princess.
One mom who goes by the username @preciousavery on TikTok shared her daughter’s reaction to the trailer, and her precious response has stolen the hearts of 1.6 million people across the world.

In the video, the little princess can be heard saying “I think she’s Brown” before adding “Brown Ariel is cute!”
Halle herself responded by sharing “oh my goodness my heart” while other users commented that they cried watching the video. One user shared that “all these videos of these beautiful little girls seeing representation has me an absolute blubbering mess. I never want these videos to stop.”
Another added “I am so happy that our babies get to experience something we didn’t. What a magical feeling! Ugh so emotional.”
