The DIY slime craze continues to dominate social media – so much so that there are entire YouTube channels dedicated to it.
This fad doesn’t seem to be going anywhere soon so we’ve decided to show you how to make your own slime at home.
We’ve found two methods that work. You’ll see that they are very similar with small variations in method. Try them both and see which one yields the best results for you. Grab your lab coats – let’s get cooking!

Method 1:
You will need:
- 5ml Borax powder (available from Clicks and pharmacies)
- A pouring jug
- 250ml boiling water
- 15ml Bostik Art and Craft glue
- 1ml food colouring of your choice
- Add 5ml Borax powder to a pouring jug with 250ml boiling water. Mix and leave to cool.
- Pour 15ml Bostik glue into a mixing bowl.
- Add 1ml of your food colouring to the glue, then add 2ml water and stir until the glue becomes runny.
- Take your borax mixture and start adding it millilitre by millilitre to the glue, while stirring the whole time. The mixture should start stiffening around the time you add the 5th ml.
- You should now be able to pick up the slime and rub it in your hands. If it’s too sticky, add another ml or 2 of borax mixture.
- Store in an airtight bag or container to keep it from drying out.
Method 2:
You will need:
- 5ml Borax powder carefully mixed into 250ml water
- 1 tube PVA-based glue (transparent, wood or ponal glue)
- Water
- Food colouring
- Squeeze your glue into a bowl. You can use any amount but ensure you have at least 50ml.
- Add the exact same amount of water as there is glue, so if you have 50ml glue, add 50ml water. Mix well.
- Add a few drops of food colouring (depending on how dark you want the colour to be).
- Add the Borax mixture to the glue mixture. You will probably only need half the amount of borax solution as you had glue (so if you added 50ml glue, you will only need 25ml of the Borax mixture).
- Mix slowly and well. You should notice the mixture starting to solidify as soon as the Borax touches the glue. Keep mixing until the Borax is totally absorbed by the glue solution.
- Taking the slime in your hands, play with it for at least 3 minutes. It may be sticky at first but keep kneading it and it should become cool to the touch and easy to stretch. The more you play with it, the better it should get. If it stays sticky, add a little more Borax solution.
- It will keep well for a few weeks if stored in a Ziplock bag.
