Budding athletes have a new South African role model to look up to, and her name is Miné de Klerk.
Miné is calling the shots –literally– as one of the world’s young shot put champions. Her rise to athletic royalty came after she scooped up multiple medals earlier this year at World Athletics in Kenya, going toe-to-toe with the top U20 athletes around the globe.
Drenched in bronze, silver and gold medals, it came as little surprise that the young champ would earn another title beyond gold medalist.
Recently, Miné has been selected as one of the brightest sports stars in athletics, earning a nomination for the 2022 Women’s Rising Star Awards. The best part? She’s waving the Rainbow Nation’s flag with every step, and is the only South African nominated for the award.
Beyond superstar, Miné also goes by:
-World U20 shot put champion
– World U20 discus throw bronze medallist
– Seven of the world’s top 10 U20 shot put performances
Miné joins other women in sport who’ve earned role-model status, including SA’s mermaid Lara van Niekerk who swam her way to gold at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
