In 2016, in late summer in New York, Viktoria Nasyrova, a Russian-speaking woman around 40 years old, visited the home of Olga Tsvyk, a 35-year-old woman who shared her language and had a similar appearance to Nasyrova. Both women had dark hair and a similar skin tone.
Nasyrova and Tsvyk met when Nasyrova approached her lookalike beautician with an “eyelash emergency.” Not long after meeting, Nasyrova would visit Tsvyk’s house bearing cheesecake to thank Tsvyk for attending to her beauty SOS.
After enjoying a slice of the cake her guest had brought along, Tsvyk began to feel ill and eventually passed out. The following day, Tsvyk was found unconscious in her bed with pills scattered around her body, and her valuables and documents were missing.
It was later discovered that the cheesecake was laced with phenazepam, a potent sedative.
The Queens District Attorney’s Office analysed remnants of the cheesecake and confirmed the presence of the drug. Nasyrova was convicted by a jury and sentenced to 21 years in prison for attempted murder. The judge also ordered five years post-release supervision.
Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz called Nasyrova a “ruthless and calculating con artist” who tried to “murder her way to personal profit and gain.” Nasyrova’s lawyer filed an appeal against the verdict and sentencing, calling the sentence excessive and inappropriate.
According to an article published on Insider, a 2017 documentary by CBS claimed that Viktoria Nasyrova has also been accused of killing another friend in Russia in 2014, Alla Aleksenko. Nasyrova was questioned by the Russian authorities regarding Aleksenko’s disappearance but fled Russia before being charged in 2014, according to the documentary.
A private investigator who looked into Nasyrova’s background claims that she worked as a dominatrix escort in Russia and would drug and rob men she met on dating websites. In 2015, Interpol issued a red notice for Nasyrova’s arrest.
This case is not the first of its kind. Earlier this year, German authorities investigated a similar incident in which a woman allegedly killed someone who bore a strong resemblance to her in an attempt to fake her own death.
