Last month, we said goodbye to iconic fashion designer, Roberto Cavalli. Even in the wake of his death, the luxury brand continues to spread its wings. Earlier this month, Roberto Cavalli opened its flagship store in Africa, this time in Umhlanga, Durban.
Roberto Cavalli has been a pioneer in the fashion industry for 75 years, with his first store opening up in Saint Tropez back in 1972. Cavalli is known for their bold animal prints and denim patchwork.
“We are thrilled to open our first African boutique at Oceans Mall,” said a spokesperson for Roberto Cavalli. According to a press release, the store will not only showcase the exclusive Spring 2024 Collection, but it will also feature a bespoke couture section, which offers custom tailor-made garments.
Ocean’s Mall
The awe-inspiring Ocean’s Umhlanga is the brainchild of Durban mogul, Vivian Reddy. Reddy was the co-developer on the R1.3 billion project, which boasts 33 000m² worth of a luxury shopping experience. It is the only South African luxury mall with 65% black tenants and the mall itself is 100% black-owned.
Besides being situated along the picturesque Umhlanga coastline, overlooking the Indian Ocean the mall is in and of itself an architectural marvel with its curvature design, garnering attention from all over the world. Even anchor tenants such as retail giants, Checkers and Woolies were specifically designed for the Ocean’s Mall, giving it a luxurious flare like no other store.
Since it’s opening in 2022, Ocean’s Mall has won two major awards, namely the PMR Diamond Award for Impressive New Property Development, and the 2023 South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA) title for the Best Mixed-Use Development.
You can find premium international and local fashion brand stores such as Dolce&Gabbana, Burberry and Versace, to name just a few, with Roberto Cavalli being the latest addition to the Ocean’s Mall offering.
