We all have personal preferences when it comes to signers we enjoy. Still, there is usually a general consensus on which songbirds most of us can appreciate as ‘The Greats’, and according to Rolling Stone, Celine Dion isn’t one of them.
In releasing ‘The 200 Greatest Singers of All Time’, Rolling Stone mentioned many of the usual suspects. Aretha Frankin (who came in at first place), Adele, Mariah Carey, Beyoncé Freddie Mercury, Prince, Elton John and Elvis.
Usher, Frank Ocean, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Rihanna, Ariana Grande and Lana Del Rey also secured their places on the list.
However, the only ‘Dion’ on the singing royalty roll call was Dion Di Mucci, the sixties ‘doo-wopper’ who broadened his range with folk, blues and R&B.
Naturally, fans of the ‘It’s All Coming Back to Me Now’ star were outraged.
As entertainment journalist @RamaScreen shared: “Look…you can argue Celine Dion’s music is not your cup of tea and that’s fair. You can argue Celine’s songs are now irrelevant in today’s Billie Eilish generation and that’s also fair. But to say that Celine Dion is not among all-time greatest singers is unbelievable.”
“How are you doing a list of 200 greatest singers of all time…and not include Celine Dion!?? Tatie Celine belted “All By Myself” WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY choking on her tears the first time she sang the song after René’s death. Whoever came up with that list needs to take it back,” shared another Twitter user.
“Respectfully, not including Celine Dion, arguably the best vocal technician of all time, in this list is borderline treasonous,” shared producer, promoter and recording artist Jamie Lambert.
Some even took to ask for ‘Justice for Celine Dion’, and questioned Rolling Stone’s ranking system when certain artists were placed above others.
Beyond Celine Dion, Cher’s name was also missing from the list.
