How has it already been 20 years since Jamali won our hearts on the hit talent search show, Coco-Cola Popstars?
Just in case you don’t remember, Jamali consists of three powerful singers, Jacqui Carpede, Mariechan Luiters and Liesl Penniken. The name Jamali came about by combining the first two letters of each of the members’ names. Jamali was the runner-up against boy band, Ghetto Lingo back in 2003.
Jamali has been nominated for three SAMAs (South African Music Awards) and they won the coveted SAMA for Best South African Pop Act back in 2009.
After a successful 16-year run, and four studio albums, Jamali decided to go their separate ways, with their last live performance at Huawei KDAY in 2019.
To celebrate their 20-year anniversary, the throwback trio will be performing 20 shows at JD Thomas Hall in Eden Park, Johannesburg.
After all this time, South Africans have proven that we are still 100% behind the trio, as the group boasts a sold-out show.
