The Ceder Race offers an exhilarating mix of adventure and competition against the stunning backdrop of the Cederberg region, located just three hours from Cape Town. Participants will dive into the rugged beauty of a landscape renowned for its natural wonders and significance as part of the Cape Floral Kingdom, particularly celebrated for its indigenous rooibos tea.
During race weekends, cyclists and runners of all skill levels can tackle challenges that include three cycling distances and three trail running distances. The event originated at the iconic Cederberg Oasis, easily recognisable by its smiley face emblem, which inspired The Ceder logo.
Following years of growth, the event will move to a new venue, Nuwerust Farm, in 2025. Participants have faced diverse weather conditions over the years, such as snow in 2021, sunshine in 2022, near-perfect weather in 2023, and a heatwave in 2024, showcasing the Cederberg’s unpredictability.
The 2025 edition aims to attract a broad range of adventure enthusiasts, from experienced athletes pushing their limits to newcomers eager to embrace the excitement of outdoor racing.
The Ceder Event will consist of two race weekends in 2025:
Saturday May 3, 2025 — The year kicks off with The Ceder as part of the UCI Gravel World Series, marking South Africa’s only qualifying race for the UCI Gravel World Championships 2025, with a three-year partnership established in this prestigious series.
Saturday October 25, 2025 — Following the successful launch of The Ceder Trail Races in 2023 and 2024, 2025 will introduce a fresh perspective to trail racing in the Cederberg, further solidifying its status on South Africa’s Trail Running calendar.
The event promises an unforgettable experience for all who join in this celebration of athleticism and the breathtaking Cederberg landscape.
