Fashion has the greatest ability to tell a story. Recently fashion has been immersed in the global matter of sustainability and The Princess of Wales has made a stunning statement in her recent sustainable dress choice – that is speaking volumes.
Kate Middleton wore a green off-the-shoulder Solace London dress rented from Hurr, a rental platform in the U.K to the recent second annual Earthshot Prize Awards in Boston. And, matched perfectly with the green carpet of the night.
The Earthshot Prize was founded by Prince William and Sir David Attenborough to award five grants to ideas, people and projects aimed at combating global warming. In honor of the event’s earth-friendly theme, guests were asked not to purchase new dresses or suits for the evening.

We have seen the Royals re-wear garments worn by other members of The Royal Family before but The Princess took it up a notch when she opted to promote a sustainable manner of dressing, which is becoming more popular nowadays.
The Ensamble
Kate kept to her classic and sophisticated silhouette but it was the green colour of the dress that was significant, as green is often the colour most associated with the earth and environmental causes.
The Princess paid homage to her late mother-in-law through accessories. With a beautiful re-wear tribute, the iconic emerald-and-diamond choker that once belonged to the late Princess Diana adorned Kate’s neck for the night. Kate had to reach into The Royal archives as the first Princess of Wales is the first person to wear this piece.

It’s these subtle actions that show tremendous tribute to the late Princess from Kate.
The choker piece has never been worn since Diana wore the necklace first as a headband (accidentally) in 1985 during her tour of Australia with Prince Charles. On other occasions, she wore it as a choker.
Middleton always makes a conscious effort to wear local fashion designers and practices sustainable dressing in her own way by re-wearing her favourite gowns at different events. Now, she has stepped into an eco-friendly fashion era.
Renting Locally
You too, can be like the Princess and rent a dress. Cape Town has its very own Style Rotate, where you can rent beautiful garments for any special occasion. Delivery is available nationwide.
