So many of us are still working from our home offices. Which is both a wonderfully strange blessing and a bit of an overhyped curse. I love making my own schedule, not having to prep lunch ahead of time, saving petrol, being comfortable and that my cats can come in for a little lap-love while I tap away at the keyboard. I am not the biggest fan of how stale it has become after this much time away from a buzzing office! Sound familiar? Seems like I am not the only one in need of quick home office updates to breathe fresh energy into the work-from-home life.
While a whole office makeover would be superb, nobody has the time or money to really dedicate to that right now. However there are some small tweaks that can make a big difference. The below ideas are just that: a little shuffle around, a little spruce up that will get you feeling excited about being at your desk each day. Or at the very least, not dread it. Here’s hoping these home office updates inspire you.
Plants
I don’t know if you’ve noticed but green is definitely the new black, and indoor plants are the hottest accessory. An indoor plant is the perfect quick-fix to a dreary home office. It will immediately bringing in life and colour. It’s also very much like having an office pal, without the distracting chatter and need to overshare.
There are an abundance of local online plant shops full of information so you can make the best choice for you and your space. We love Plantify‘s Kokedama selection (a Japanese planting style for hanging ornamental plants), like the Heart Leaf Philodendron pictured above, for something different. Here are some other options with greens just waiting to be your home office update:
- Lifestyle Home Garden (Gauteng delivery only)
- Rusty Rose Nursery
- Atrium Plants
- Folha
Carafe
Hydration is always, always important! If you struggle to get in your 8 glasses a day, a good looking sleek carafe sitting on your office desk as a constant reminder might do you some good. Add some lemon, cucumber and sprigs of mint for a delicious flavour…and to keep it looking enticing. We love this Brooklyn Glass Carafe from Woolworths, affordable and chic.
Scented Candles
Bringing in a scented candle not only makes your space smell phenomenal but can soothe or stimulate your mind based on which scent you choose. While they make great home office updates by making you feel good and not taking up much space, they’re also easy to move around the house. Plus good safety nets when load shedding hits, it had to be said! We love the gorgeous Babylonstoren candles with delicious aromas like this delicate and zesty Orange Blossom candle.
