Dewy, velvety, semi-matt, matt… With so many different formulas to choose from, it can be tricky to navigate the beauty aisles of a department store in search of the perfect foundation for your skin. Most seasoned make-up artists agree that liquid foundation tends to look the most natural on the skin. Opt for one with a light-to-medium coverage that can be built up, rather than a fake-looking, full-coverage formula. Here are our favourite picks for complexion perfection in seconds.
DOs
* Do prep your skin. Your foundation won’t look great slapped on top of uneven, dehydrated skin, so be sure to massage an eye cream and moisturiser into your skin beforehand. There’s a reason why top make-up artists spend more time on skincare than they do on make-up while working backstage at big shows and shoots.
* Do correct and conceal first. Tap a lightweight concealer over blemishes and under-eye circles before you apply foundation to get a good idea of how much foundation you actually need.
DONT’s
* Don’t be heavy-handed. Foundation is a way for you to perfect your skin, not mask it – so start with a few drops blended outward from the centre of your face with a slightly damp sponge or brush. You can always add more product if need be as you go.
* Don’t forget to finish off with powder. Set the areas of your face that tend to smudge during the day with a light dusting of translucent powder, using a fluffy brush. We prefer a pressed version, because it means less mess
