What began as a way for both parties to keep safe from COVID-19, video conferencing for interviews seems to be
here to stay. And it has loads of benefits.
Interviews can be organised quickly, you can interview candidates who don’t live close by and there is less pressure on both interviewers and candidates. If you see a digital interview in your near future, you need to make sure you’re just as prepared as if you were interviewing in person, but the game has changed slightly…
FIND YOUR PLATFORM
Make sure you find out which platform you will be interviewing on a couple of days before and practise using it. You can even get a friend to play interviewer to help you. When you work through this exercise, you will be able to tell if you need to use a virtual background, depending on your space, and if you want to keep it private. Try out a couple of options, deciding which looks the most professional.
DRESS UP
Now that you’re ready for your interview, dress up the top half of your body for the big event – it’s just as important to make an effort.
CLEAR YOUR DESKTOP
Make sure the only windows open on your computer are the video platform and a PDF of your CV. You can offer to share your screen when you discuss your past experience, showing that you are prepared.
