Pack your bags ladies, we’re going on a road trip!
Just think about it – long winding roads, a killer playlist and the wind through your hair. Sounds ideal right? But first, packing.
Conflicted on what to pack? Do you always take hours to decide what deserves to come not he trip? Don’t worry, we have the ultimate fashion packing essentials you’ll need to create an unforgettable time and snap those all-important adventure pictures.
Always remember the 3 C’s
We love the 3 C’s for what to wear on the long road. Comfort, Casual, Chic! This will be your guide to not only looking stylish for your trip but will also help you to not overpack since you might not have a lot of space and we know living out of a suitcase is not always easy.
Road trips are becoming this season’s go-to travel option and the perfect experience to discover beautiful places especially in South Africa. Along with all the planning, you’ll need to accept the fact that you are going to be sitting for lengthy periods of time. This might be the driving force behind the essential outfits you will want to pack.
If outfit ideas are flowing through your mind already, make sure they pass the 3 C’s!
The comfort essentials
Comfort is key! While driving you want to ensure you are dressed comfortably, which doesn’t mean compromising your style. Loungewear is always a good idea, a matching sweatsuit set is cosy and on-trend for the season.
Speaking as someone who just returned from a road trip, activewear was my go-to. Stretchy, comfortable and an ode to athleisure.
Let’s start with t-shirts and tank tops. They don’t take up a lot of space, are comfortable, and casual and there is something so simplistic yet classic about a plain tee that’s kept it timelessly chic. These provide the perfect base to build on and are very versatile.
How your garments fit is a very important factor because you don’t want to wear anything too tight or cutting into your skin. Think about leaving your skin-tight skinny jeans at home and opt for your more worn-in, boyfriend fit.
The casual essentials
Always remember a light jersey and a jacket or 3 (for options). Early mornings and evenings can get a bit chilly no matter where you travel and we all have that one fellow traveller who loves to blast the air-con.
Jersey options are perfect companions for those sunset or sunrise pictures, oozing comfort and that effortless look.
There’s also something nostalgic about a comfortable jersey, chilling in front of the fire with your besties, reminiscing, laughing, and relishing in your travels.
The chic essentials
Six-inch heels? If you’re going to use up the space, rather look at a cute wedge or mule for a dinner night out.
Always pack in a pair of flip-flops, especially if you’re going to an area where there are public showers – hygiene is your number 1 priority.
Don’t pack in too many accessories but keep hats, socks and sunnies at the ready.
A few other essentials to remember are your favourite denim jacket, leggings and anything low maintenance. This means items that won’t require ironing. Don’t forget to scope the surroundings of your travels and look at your itinerary or trip bucket list. You might feel tempted to pack an outfit for every occassion, but remember that layering can change a look in a heartbeat. A limited range of stylish dresses with different jackets and the whole look transforms.
The best travel beauty tip is SPF, which should be in your bag at all times no matter where you’re heading. No one wants to sit for a long period of time with a painful sunburn or a sunglasses tan.
These are only guidelines, and if you can’t live without your full wardrobe then we hope you’ve got enough space in the boot! Regardless, a road trip is meant to be enjoyable so sit back, enjoy the ride and just do you!
