Air fryers have been all the rage, and people seem to be replacing their ovens and deep-fryers with the new, trendy alternative.
The stipulation made by manufacturers is that air fryers are the healthier option when compared to deep-frying, but not necessarily so when preparing food the healthy way which is roasting and grilling.
According to the US Department of Agriculture, 100 grams (g) of fried and battered chicken breast contains 13.2 g of fat (as a result of the oil used) compared to just 0.39 g of fat in an oven-roasted chicken breast.
Air fryers, on the other hand, only require a tiny percentage of the oil that deep frying does, while it offers a similar texture and flavour palate, but at a fraction of the unhealthy components.
Air fryers have gained popularity as a saving grace, but here are some points to consider.
TikToker says, “Stop using air fryers”

This TikToker reveals something he’s dubbed as “forever chemicals”. Here, he is referring to PTFE, PFOA, PFOS, and BPA or more commonly, Teflon.
The truth is that when heated, these chemicals are released into the food being cooked and even into the air that you breathe.
This is the case, particularly, when an air fryer is damaged or scratched.
Air Fryers and Cancer
There has been lots of chatter about air fryers link to cancer.
A study revealed that they release ionizing radiation, which is related to an elevated risk of cancer. Although, beyond the risk, it was not concluded that air fryers actually cause cancer.
It seems that there are some benefits to using an air fryer, depending on the type of air fryer that you are using, how you care for your air fryer, and what is being replaced by the use of the air fryer.
