As we venture into the new year, it seems like the pool of trends, treatments, and fixes in the beauty world has become frighteningly deep.
If foot botox can (and does) exist, then what stops other forms of wild and curious botox treatment from joining the party?

Recently, hair botox has snuck its way into beauty discourse, and no, my injection-fearing friends, it’s not what you think.
Fight off the graphic images of hair being plagued by needles, or locks that will never bounce again (which would be criminal.) Hair botox, unlike the rest of the botox family, is possibly the one treatment that isn’t as straight-forward as it sounds. It’s the black sheep of the family, the aunt no one’s sure is an actual relative, or the ‘friend’ who coyly moved into your home.
What on earth is it, then?
To put it simply, hair botox doesn’t contain the botulinum toxin ingredient. It’s named not because of its properties, but rather what it does.
Just like botox might fill up those crow feet (the fine wrinkles around your eyes) hair botox works by filling your hair molecules. It’s for those with broken hair that just can’t be revived, or hair that just isn’t as healthy as it once was.
According to Juliana Ohlmeyer, a hair botox expert, “the purpose of hair botox is to bring your hair back to its healthiest state, and embrace the texture you have at its fullest potential.”
Ingredients differ per treatment, but some common include:
- caviar oil
- jojoba oil
- argan oil
- E vitamins
- Collagen complex
What journey will you be taking your hair on?
Hair botox claims to give people shinier and fuller hair, similar to a deep condition. It isn’t to be confused with a Brazilian (ie: it’s not meant to flat-out straighten your hair). So, even if you’re on team curls, you can still reap the benefits that’ll keep your curls locked and flourishing.
Worth the hype?
When it comes to hair affairs, the rule of thumb is to be incredibly honest with your hairdresser. Have ‘the talk’ and tell them what you’ve done (or neglected) on your hair journey. Over-straightening, excessive highlighting and blowdrying are all red flags that might indicate you need some extra TLC.
If the conversation around hair botox comes up, now you’ll at least be in the drivers’ seat; no anxiety-induced needle fears required.
