Fashion’s big night is back again on 2nd May. We cannot wait to see our favourite celebrities and fashion designers pull out all the stops! While the event itself is kept rather hush-hush, here are the details we know about the 2022 Met Gala.

The theme
This year’s event and subsequent Metropolitan Museum of Art exhibition follows on from last year’s theme ‘In America: A Lexicon of Fashion’. The 2022 Met Gala focuses on the theme ‘In America: An Anthology of Fashion’ with the dress code ‘Gilded Glamour’. It takes inspiration from The Gilded Age in New York during the era of 1870 and 1890.
It is an American period characterised by economic and industrial growth. This came with increased immigration, political participation – often of the corrupt kind – and social reform, like growing women’s rights and their larger presence as workers and consumers. But it was also a time of materialism, and fashion was an elaborate part of this.
Trends included tight corsets, long boned bodices and creating practically unbelievable hourglass shapes, all which can be seen coming back in fashion among the Millenial and Gen Z generations. We’re expecting to see much of this along with floor-length gowns and over-the-top ornamentation. An overflow of bows, lace, frills and crystal embellishments were all part of The Gilded Age so we can expect our 2022 Met Gala celebs to go a little ‘extra’.
Perhaps we will see some 90s Vivienne Westwood worn on the night?
The guest list
While the Met Gala guest list is always kept a secret, we do know a few famous faces who will be on the Met’s red carpet come the Monday night. Once again, Vogue Editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, Council of Fashion Designers of America chairman Tom Ford and head of Instagram Adam Mosseri will be the honorary co-chairs.
They will be joined by one of Hollywood’s most beautiful, and funniest, couple: Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds. Legendary actress Regina King and ‘Hamilton’ actor, writer and composer Lin-Manuel Miranda complete the list of highly impressive co-chairs.

We hope to see a host of American designs take to the stage at the 2022 Met Gala too. Despite last year’s theme – which received mixed reviews by the public – the bigger European names like Valentino, Givenchy and Balenciaga were the ones in the spotlight. We’ll have to wait until 2nd May to see!
