Recently, I stumbled upon a slice of the high life happily but accidentally.
Upon realising we’d arrived at the wrong Africa Padel court in Camps Bay (yes, I am well aware of how Capetonian this sentence is), a troop of confused and sweaty amateur players were redirected.
For those who don’t know — Africa Padel is the newest sporting kid on the block, taking locals (and their fitness levels) by storm. Think squash meets tennis, but with a lot more laughter. I’m by no means an expert, but I will share that this game is the perfect weekend plan for anyone who wants to get their body moving and spend some time with loved ones. However, you might want to prepare for a few ‘friendly’ disagreements—all in good sport, right?

It wasn’t a long drive, but we may as well have driven to the rolling hills of Monaco. Better still, we were in the part of Camps Bay that makes Monaco look inferior.
What was supposed to be our original stop was nothing short of a manor from a fairytale. Camps Bay Retreat is certainly what it’s made out to be—a haven hidden atop a hill boasting a mighty fine view of the Bay that never sleeps.
Although the plan was Padel, the game was frequently interrupted by our prolonged gazes, gawking and overall awe of the boutique hotel. A sense of elegance perfumes its air, the visions of the ocean are a photographer’s dream and, you won’t be able to escape the feeling that you’ve stepped into another era; perhaps that of your wealthy great-aunt.

Pampering, dining and A-list relaxation are all on the cards at this haven. Not to mention, the Padelcourts that’ll make you wonder why they didn’t think of the fabulous game sooner. Did I mention that there’s also a private nature reserve too?
And, for those who are feeling as enchanted as I did, we’re in luck.
A staycation at this same hidden gem awaits the savvy booker.
