Just a mere 45km from Cape Town’s city centre, Erinvale is nestled in the heart of the Helderberg. The tantalising Wine Society event takes place every last Wednesday of the month in the Magnolia Social Dining Lounge – one of three stellar venues at Erinvale. You can expect three local winemakers to present a selection of 3-4 wines, paired with the Chef’s choice of small plates and a decadent dessert, at the end.
Here’s a recap of our night at Wine Society.
Upon arrival, we are welcomed by the warm, romantic ambient illumination of soft yellow lighting, radiating along the pathway, leading us to the entrance. At the door, we are greeted by a friendly face who leads us to Magnolia.

As we enter, the air is soft and warm, even though it was a chilly night outside, you’d immediately forget that as you enter the space. The space is beautifully decorated and feels cosy and relaxed, which is exactly what you want when sharing your love of wine with your nearest and dearest. Based on the expressions of everyone in attendance, the overjoy to be spending the night tasting wine is unanimous. It is also a rare occurrence in the Winelands, as wine tasting is largely a daytime activity, and finding a tasting beyond 5pm is close to impossible.
As we take our seats, we are met with a crisp glass of Vrede en Lust Sarah Bubbly – a blend of Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc and Pinot Noir, welcoming us into the night, with our first course to follow. We enjoyed a chicken, noodle miso soup bowl which paired well with the citrus stone fruit and creamy oak flavours of the Delheim Chardonnay Sur Lie. The Delheim representative was engaging and worked his way around the large table that we were seated at, ensuring that every participant was part of the conversation until the bell rang and it was time for a winemaker switch-up.
Last up, we had a representative from Axe Hill, who presented us with one of my favourites: a Portuguese blend, called Machado. The Machado was bursting with rich flavours of dark red fruits, cedar and sweet tobacco on the tongue.
As we say goodbye to the Winter Wine Series, Erinvale has just announced the final round of dates for their popular Wine Society gathering for Spring. Here’s what you can expect over the next few months:
